Ok I admit, it's a lofty title for an article but I had to get your attention! For those who say golf is not a real sport, I challenge you to come to my office and see the number of golf-related injuries I see! There are several reasons people get injured playing golf but two main ones seem to be: 1) a lack of warm-up and stretching before and after the game; and 2) poor posture and an underlying lack of core stability.

oakville chiropractic 2. Muscle-strengthening exercises can make your body stronger and more flexible. Focus on the wrist, shoulders and upper back as well as your general posture and core strength. Talk to your therapist personal trainer or golf coach for specific exercises.

3. When taking clubs out of your vehicle, bend your knees, slightly curve your spine, and gently lift the golf bag out of the vehicle. Push or pull rather than carry your golf bag to help avoid back strain.

4. Walk the golf course! What a great way to increase the effectiveness of your workout! This will burn calories as well as having a positive effect on your heart! 

5. When preparing to tee off or before stooping for the ball, bend your knees and use a golf club for support.

6. Whether you are a beginner or have been playing for some time, it can be helpful to have a coach observe your playing posture and give you some tips. The correct posture will prevent injuries! 

7. Cool down and stretch after the game is over. Make sure to stay hydrated too!

jody curry RMTOne of the most common complaints of our patients is work-related stress and the pain, tension and injuries that it can cause. In this day and age, work stress is almost impossible to avoid, and yet it is vital to our health that we find a way to manage it. According to experts, as much as 80-90% of disease is stress related, and it can have an effect on every other area of our lives.

Summer isn't usually associated with being a time of stress, but when you consider kids being home from school, covering for people who are on vacation, and summer traffic, you may find yourself needing that extra moment to yourself. Finding the time to have a massage would be a great way to either kick-start your own vacation or treat yourself while you are covering for someone else’s.

Besides increasing relaxation and decreasing anxiety, here are some of the many benefits of massage:
· Lowers your blood pressure and increases circulation

· Improves recovery from injury

· Helps you to sleep better and can increase your concentration

· Reduces fatigue and gives you more energy to handle stressful situations

· Stand up, stretch, and take a few deep breaths

· Take a brief break from your current environment (e.g. a brisk walk, or sitting outside)

· Watch your posture! As we get tired we tend to start to slump over, so take a quick stretch break and then sit up straight
